Dental Treatment during COVID-19

Updated 12 May 2020

Dear patient,

During this Coronavirus outbreak, our top priority is the health & well-being of patients, staff and doctors. We believe we have an important role to play in the prevention of the COVID-19 spread.

We have now returned to full normal dental service. We are able to provide all our normal dental treatments to patients who don't have COVID-19 symptoms.

If you require any dental treatment, please phone us at (02) 4721 4652.

We are pleased to report that the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC), and the Dental Boards of Australia & NSW, have now approved the move from Level 2 to Level 1 dental service restrictions, as of 8th May 2020. Level 1 restrictions permit all dental treatments using standard precautions, for people who do not meet epidemiological or clinical risk factors for COVID-19 infection transmission. Of course, we will continue to provide the highest level of infection controls, including our risk assessment protocols when seeing patients.

To organise your dental treatment:

  1. Please call ahead; do not come into the office without calling first.
  2. When you call, please describe your desired dental treatment, or dental emergency.
  3. During the pre-visit phone-call we will ask you about your recent medical history. Have you had any of these symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 14 days?
    • dry cough
    • muscle aches
    • respiratory difficulty (even minor)
    • fever (temperature above 37.3 degrees C)
  4. Our staff will organise a time for your visit.

Importantly for you and the community, please be as honest as possible about any symptoms you have experienced.

Special precautions during your visit:

To ensure the safety of our patients & staff, we ask you to follow these precautions & behaviours during your visit, to maintain good hygiene & social distancing:

  • Please arrive for your appointment only at the organised time. Our staff will organise appointment times, to avoid having patients wait together in our waiting room.
  • When you arrive for your appointment, please wait in your car until our staff call you in. This is to maintain social distancing, so that patients do not cross paths with other patients.
  • If you do encounter another patient, please maintain a physical distance of at least 2 metres from them.
  • When you arrive, please do not shake hands with any staff or patients. We must avoid physical contact to maintain good hygiene.
  • When you arrive, our staff will either:
    • ask you to wash your hands with hand sanitizer for 20 seconds; or
    • send you immediately into the dental surgery, and ask you to wash your hands with antibacterial soap-wash.
  • When you are seated in the chair, we will ask you to gargle thoroughly with a peroxide mouth rinse to sterilise any germs lurking in your mouth.
  • We will decide the best treatment for you, during these COVID-19 restrictions.
  • Finally, when you pay, we ask that you pay with a credit card if you can, to avoid handling cash.

If our patients follow these extra precautions & behaviours, to keep all our staff & patients safe, we should be able to continue operating during this outbreak.

We're keeping it clean for you:

We always follow the highest standards of hygiene & infection control procedures within our surgeries.

During this COVID-19 outbreak, we are cleaning & disinfecting all front-office equipment and frequently-touched areas (door handles, bench tops, reception chairs) every 30 minutes.

We appreciate your patience & understanding, as we do our part to promote a healthy community and prevent the spread of the virus.

Stay safe and take care of each other.
